The Ultimate Travel Essential
The GAME CHANGING travel essential for menstruators.

As someone who suffers from really bad periods, I have spent the last few years trying to find anything that will make my time of the month easier. In terms of travelling, I have looked at so many different solutions, but none of them really seemed to work. However, through those pesky targeted adds on Instagram that everyone complains about, I have found an amazing company with a solution to a few of my problems: Modibodi.
This post is not sponsored, I just really love these products!
What is Modibodi?
Modibodi is a company who create period underwear that is a sustainable alternative to regular period products like pads and tampons. But they’re so much more than that. They’re designed to be leak-proof and moisture wicking and some products can even be worn for up to 24hrs. They have products ranging from maternity and postpartum to sweat absorption and chafing prevention to periods and have products to suit all sizes and genders as well as different absorbency levels from superlight to maxi/24hrs. They even do a swimwear and activewear range!
Why are they perfect for travelling?
There are several reasons as to why Modibodi underwear is the ultimate travel essential, but I’ll break it down into the top 3 reasons, the obvious being convenience. If you have a heavy flow, having to get up from a plane seat, clambering over the other people in your row and remembering to take your much needed pouch of supplies several multiple times during a flight to go and change your products when you don’t even need the toilet can be embarrassing and just down right inconvenient. With a maxi/24hr pair of underwear on, you’ll only need to get up when you really have to, there’s no worry of leaving a tampon in too long and they dry so fast, you don’t get that horrible feeling you do with a pad.
Another reason being is that the toilets on transport like planes, trains, buses and even boats are not very period friendly. They are small, often have overflowing sanitary bins (if they even have one!) and they’re not terribly stable, especially on a boat or plane. I always have to carry nappy bags or sanitary disposal bags with me when I’m on public transport as I have on many occasions had to take my used products with me to find a bin when the one provided is overflowing or there isn’t one. With period underwear I don’t have to worry about this.
And finally, one of the most embarrassing things that can happen on a trip, I find, is ruining the crisp white sheets in your accommodation! This is mortifying! Especially if you’re in a hostel dorm. The leak protection in these undies has never failed me and I can sleep soundly without worrying I’ll wake up to an embarrassing stain.
Which products would I recommend?
I bought 4 pairs initially to try out, they are slightly on the higher end of affordable but as someone who had been spending £20+ a month on products anyway, I figured it was the equivalent of a 4 months supply of pads and tampons. I purchased two of the maxi/24hr pairs, one moderate-heavy pair and one super light. Personally, I like things to be high waisted and tight fitting without feeling like I’m being suffocated so I purchased the Lush Crush recycled seam-free full brief, a black recycled seam-free thong, the Journey hi-waist bikini and the Boho Love classic full brief. After now trying them all, I would definitely say my favourite pair would be the lush crush full brief as it fits perfectly and I don’t feel like they’re so tight on my stomach that I am being suffocated like you do with some full brief underwear, and they look flattering which may not be a priority to many when on their period (I normally do not care in the slightest), but I now feel more confident in my bloated state to wear my normal clothes. I would 100% purchase this and the Boho love and the thong again, however I think I should’ve sized up the thong. There is nothing wrong with the Journey pair, I just prefer to wear these overnight as they sometimes show a clear VPL in some pairs of my beloved leggings that I wear 24/7.
