Budget-Friendly Eats in Bali and Beyond
One of the biggest stigma’s around travelling is the judgement from people when you travel all that way but you don’t eat the local food 24/7, and as a non foodie (with a mixed relationship with food) I found this to be really challenging mindset. Sometimes you do just need a good pizza or (dare I say) some McDonalds chicken nuggets.
So here’s my non-foodie food guide to some of the best budget-friendly places to eat across Bali, Nusa Penida, and the Gili Islands. Whether you’re after local flavours or craving a taste of home, I’ve got you covered.
1. Regina Pizza, Gili Trawangan

I get it—pizza in Indonesia might seem a bit odd. But honestly, Regina Pizza on Gili T will convert you. The thin, crispy crusts, fresh toppings, and rich tomato sauce will make you feel like you’ve just stumbled into a little slice of Italy. Whether you opt for the classic Margherita or something a bit more adventurous, every bite is spot on. The vibe here is laid-back, with the bonus of sunset views. Perfect for winding down after a day of snorkelling or sunbathing.
Top Tip: It’s located near the main strip on Gili T, so grab a take away box and head over to the beach to catch the sunset—ideal combo!
2. Radha Warung, Sidemen
Sidemen is Bali’s hidden gem, away from the tourist hordes, and Radha Warung is where you’ll find some of the tastiest grilled chicken ever, definitely the best we had in Bali. (Just watch out for the indoor stream, a little kid fell in when we were there and the staff were horrified!)
Top Tip: It’s next to a few other restaurants that always seem to be busier but this ones definitely better.
3. Adila Warung, Munduk

If you’re heading up to the mountains in Munduk, you’ve got to stop at Adila Warung. This little family-owned gem serves some of the best traditional Indonesian food around. Their Nasi Goreng (fried rice) is packed with flavour (probably the best I had in Indonesia), and the crispy spring rolls are a delicious side. The setting is rustic, and with panoramic views of the surrounding hills, it’s the perfect spot to kick back and refuel.
Top Tip: I highly recommend staying here if you’re staying in Munduk, or participating in one of the cooking classes they run.
4. Simply Social, Ubud
Ubud might be known for its rice paddies and yoga retreats, but it’s also home to some great food. Simply Social is a modern spot along the Main Street with a mix of local and western food. Their tandoori skewers are really tasty, and something I highly recommend.
Top Tip: It’s located right in the heart of Ubud, so it’s perfect for a pit stop after visiting the Monkey Forest or the markets, but get there early because it fills up fast!
5. Kura Kura Resort, Gili Meno

Gili Meno might be the most chilled out of the Gili Islands, and Kura Kura Resort is a great spot to enjoy some tasty chicken dishes, and it’s right next to the port so it’s a convenient spot to catch lunch before you catch a ferry. I really liked chicken parmigiana and chicken steak, and it was a nice break from my go-to chicken satay.
Top Tip: Keep an eye on your food/table at ALL times, the local cats are quite cheeky!
6. Sasak Cafe, Gili Meno
For a more low-key, budget-friendly option on Gili Meno, Sasak Cafe is perfect. This no-frills restaurant offers a solid range of local and Western dishes (although I’d recommend sticking to local food), with the spring rolls being a crowd favourite. It’s affordable, simple, and delicious, making it a great spot to grab a meal after a day spent exploring or lounging on the beach.
Top Tip: It’s small and casual, so don’t expect anything fancy. Most people go here for the entertainment, a live band (who you can actually find on spotify and I can guarantee you’ll be singing their remake of “Down Under – Men at Work”
7. Johnny’s Tacos, Canggu
Canggu is known for its surf scene and instagrammable cafes, but Johnny’s Tacos is where you’ll find a slice of Mexico in Bali. The tacos are packed with fresh ingredients and bold flavours, and the perfect size for a snack or a meal. Whether you go for chicken, beef, or vegetarian, you can’t go wrong here.
Top Tip: I recommend getting a few plates as they’re not the biggest servings and this way you can mix and match.
8. SharkBites, Gili Air

A lot of places either do western or local food really well but not usually both at the same time, but SharkBites on Gili Air is the answer. This unpretentious spot serves up proper Western comfort food—burgers, chips and more, whilst also serving really good local dishes so it will suit everyone’s tastes. It’s perfect after a long day of snorkelling or chilling on the beach, and the relaxed atmosphere makes it an easy place to unwind.
Top Tip: Their breakfast burrito is a winner if you’re after something filling before heading out on a dive or snorkelling tour.
9. Kakatua Bar, Lovina
Lovina, in the quieter north of Bali, is a great place to escape the crowds, and Kakatua Bar serves up a spiced chicken wrap that’s packed with flavour. We were in Lovina for just over 24 hours and I think we had 4 of these wraps in that time! It’s the perfect post-dolphin-watching meal or after a morning spent exploring the nearby waterfalls. The friendly staff and generous portions make this a great place for a relaxed meal.
Top Tip: Pair the wrap with a cold beer for the ultimate chill lunch in Lovina.
10. Warung Jun, Nusa Penida
If you’re heading to Nusa Penida for its rugged beauty and epic viewpoints, Warung Jun is where you can refuel with some of the best chicken satay around I’ve eaten across Indonesia.
Top Tip: Eat here before tackling the hike down to Kelingking Beach—you’ll need the energy (and it’ll be WAY cheaper than getting food there)
11. Santorini, Seminyak

Their chicken gyro plate (my personal favourite) is a standout, and often included in the daily deals. If you’re looking for something filling, the roasted half chicken is also a winner, according to Reilly. The setting really does feel like you’re relaxing on a Greek island, living a Mamma Mia moment. It’s a very popular spot however, so get there early because they fill up FAST.
Top Tip: They do daily deals on their menu items which is a great way to save a few extra pennies on your meal.
So, if you’re heading to Bali, Nusa Penida, or the Gili Islands, don’t miss out on these top eats. Whether you’re craving local Indonesian dishes or something more familiar, these places offer tasty, budget-friendly options to fuel your adventure.
