What’s in my bum bag?

Advertisements

I go pretty much everywhere with my bum bag (fanny pack), dog walks, the shops, the zoo, hikes – you name it.

I use the SOLO bum bag by Christianne Risman in the colour grey, and it’s one of the handiest travel accessories I own. As I use it for everyday and travelling, below are lists of what I include for both uses. I pack mine similarly to Christianne, so be sure to check out her video on what she keeps in her bumbag!

Everyday

The main compartment

I of course always carry around my phone and wallet. I have the iPhone XS and a large (19cm x 10.5 cm) wallet and these comfortably fit here. I also carry a small foldable bag, either a Saltrock one or an Eco Chic one. This fits in perfectly in the corners as the pocket extends for the whole length of the bag, which is rare with ones you might purchase elsewhere. I also have a small hand cream (30ml) and a perfume atomiser (5ml). With all of this I do still have some room, so I sometimes take a small pouch with my favourite teas in (I LOVE tea!!), but this is usually for days out rather than for a trip to the shops.

The back /the secret zip pocket

This is the perfect place to keep masks as the pocket is long enough to ensure that they don’t crease. I have also discovered that it’s the place to keep a small pack of antibac wipes, which come in handy in many situations, especially since the outbreak of Coronavirus. Sometimes, however, I keep the antibac wipes in the front pocket. I also store any receipts I may need to keep here as it’s safe and will keep them flat.

The front pocket

I use this as a pharmacy essentially. I store painkillers, Hayfever tablets, throat lozenges, cold and flu relief tablets, antacids, tissues, an emergency tampon and pad, and pawpaw ointment. I know, it’s a lot, but I like to be prepared for any situation I find myself in, especially as I suffer from endometriosis and I’m screwed if I get stuck without pain medication. It’s also super handy for if I’ve gone somewhere with someone who may need any of those too, I have two friends who are allergic to different pain killers so I carry both in case they need them.

The small zip pocket

When I first got this bum bag, someone said to me ‘that pocket is so inconveniently small’ but in actual fact it’s perfect. Here I store three different size hair ties, a Carmex lip balm and my headphones. These are items that may not fit elsewhere conveniently, but are too important to leave out.

The clip

This is probably the most useful parts of this bag. The clip is attached to a small strip of fabric that loops, and I use this to store a hand sanitiser bottle so it’s handy at all times. I use bottles like this as they attach to things so simply, but are also refillable. On the clip itself I attach my car keys and if I’m constantly taking my mask on and off, I attach that there too. I have also attached doggy bags or a treat pouch when walking my dog as it leaves my hands free to throw a ball or carry her lead.

Travelling

The main compartment

Similar to everyday use, I store my phone and wallet here, however, I travel with a much smaller wallet as it’s much more convenient. I still carry the hand cream but carry a larger bottle of perfume or body spray. I also carry a mini bottle of disinfectant spray as the trays, buckles, armrests and walls are the dirtiest places on the plane and I don’t want to catch something that ruins the whole trip. I keep my ‘emergency pouch’* in here too as well as my GoPro when I’m not using it but want to keep it close to hand. I still have loads of room for anything I might pick up at the airport too.

The back/ secret zip

This section pretty much stays the same, masks, antibac wipes but instead of receipts I keep my passport and boarding pass if I have a physical copy.

The front pocket, small pocket and clip

These would all remain the same as they’re generic and will always be useful. (I’d leave out the doggy bags and treats if I was flying, but if I was going on a road trip with my dog, it’s always good to have them handy).

* I have mentioned above that I carry an emergency pouch. This is an old pencil case/ makeup pouch (about 17cm) that I keep some essentials in that would allow me to get by if my main bag and carry on were lost, and is also discreet and easy to take to a bathroom etc. In here I keep:

Keep an eye out or subscribe to find out when I make my shop live as I have a bumbag checklist that’ll take the stress out of packing.
